In 2006 they took a team up to The Grahamstown Festival to perform Woza Cape Town, staged a successful production called Going Places at The Masque Theatre. We entered the International Hip Hop Champs at Grand West, and took Going Places back – by popular demand – to The Masque Theatre.
2007 saw the launch of on going performances of Woza Cape Town (2007 – 2011)
“Woza” would go on to perform weekly to tourists, at galas and conventions, and other high profile events over the years. 2007 was also the launch of Theatre in the District, which became home for Woza and other shows that TDP staged, such as the Broadway musical Godspell.
They also took a small team up to SA Hip Hop Champs in Johannesburg where Debbie Matthews was chosen to represent South Africa at the International Hip Hop Champs in Los Angeles. Back in Cape Town, they staged another show called Can You Feel It at The Masque Theatre.
In 2008, they had three groups in the Top 10 at the Hip Hop International Champs (hosted by Hip Hop Connexion).
One of the groups received 2nd place and were invited to participate in the Championship in Las Vegas in July 2008, where they placed 18th in the world!
Back at home, Woza Cape Town was awarded Most Creative Cape Town Product at the inaugural Good Hope FM Best of Cape Town awards.
2009 saw the celebration of ten years with successful production REWIND as well as two collaborative shows, Fashion In The District and Strike A Pose at Theatre In The District. At the same time, they performed at the Ajax Cape Town matches, and launched an anti drug abuse programme BORN TO BE DRUG FREE. This travelled as a full road show to 40 High Schools in the Western Cape in collaboration with Kaleidoscope and the Department of Education. They also set up a collaborative training programme with Qilimba Group from Phillipi.
2010 and 2011 were big years for TDP: they presented a successful production called Now That’s Dance as well as presented the third successful season of the musical Going Places at The Masque Theatre, and two more fashion shows at Theatre in the District. They also performed for Big Talk Entertainment at the Total Awards as well as in Namibia. Cleo Notcutt made it to the top 16 in SA’s So You Think You Can Dance, and TDP took a 4 week dance tour overseas – to Europe and the USA, to take part in international dance conventions. The award-winning Woza Cape Town, was chosen by Cape Town Tourism to represent Cape Town in entertainment for Tourism Month. It was also the opening act for the World Conference for NASA at Cape Town Convention Centre.
2012 and 2013 continued in the same way, with another new production called Put Your Foot Down at The Masque Theatre.Annie Hendricks made it to the final audition round of So You Think You Can Dance SA.
Two teams of dancers from TDP qualified to take part in the International World Hip Hop Champs in Las Vegas, USA which they travelled to in 2012. In early 2013 they took part inSASAFF Western Province Hip Hop Competition. Two of the teams qualified with their South African colours and were invited to take part in the next round, but this time they were unable to complete the circuit due to financial restraints. Later in the year they staged the production Get On Your Feet at The Masque Theatre, and finally ended the year on a high note with the annual awards evening showcase Take A Bow.
Some of our achievements in 2014 included many honours and placements at the SADTA Hip Hop Competition. The year also featured our annual showcase at the Masque Theatre called “NEXT”. Take a Bow ended off both 2014 and 2015 with fitting recognition for all that had been achieved over the past two years. As 2015 rolled around the corner we were deep into planning our second Cultural overseas Dance Tour to Europe and the States.
During 2015 we also staged the fifth performance of Cape Town’s Most Wanted which happened at The Artscape Theatre, featuring many of the top Hip Hop Crews in and around Cape Town. And if we thought 2015 couldn’t get any busier, we also managed to stage a successful production of Put Your Foot Down at The Masque Theatre. All the while two of our top Hip Hop Crews qualified for an International Hip Hop Competition, run by Dancestar, to take place in Croatia.
The highlight of the year for some however was in June when we embarked on our second exciting Cultural overseas Dance tour of Europe and the States which saw some of our students get to experience the world in ways they have never seen before.
